The Mera Peak climbing 15 days starts from Lukla. You will hike through the Makalu Barun National Park, navigating alpine meadows and glacier moraines to reach Khare, Mera Base Camp.

What to expect during the Mera Peak climbing?

Mera Peak climbing offers breathtaking mountain vistas and heavenly landscapes. It is not as crowded as the famous EBC route, so you will enjoy a peaceful walk to Khare.

The trail goes through rhododendron hills, crossing thrilling suspension bridges on the way. You will cross small mountain passes and meadows. Likewise, you will also visit the ancient Lungsumba Gompa on the way.

The rich biodiversity of Makalu Barun National Park will amaze you. You will see different plants, flowers, birds, and insects, and may spot some wild animals as well.

Mera Peak climbing strategy

You will trek to Khare. It is our Mera Peak Base Camp. Here, you will spend an acclimatization day. Acclimatization day involves a hike to a high altitude, most likely Mera La, and spending the night at Khare.

You will also receive pre-climbing training at Khare. We provide pre-climbing training to our climbers to boost their confidence. During the trekking, you will learn to use climbing gear and mountaineering terminologies.

From Khare, you will hike to Mera Peak High Camp. It will be a short climb. The high camp is situated on a rocky shelf behind a large vertical rock. A night at Mera High Camp will further ensure Mera Peak summit success.

On the summit day, you will start climbing at around 3:00 AM. The climbing route goes north from the high camo and crosses thick snow slopes on the way to Mera Peak summit.

The summit will welcome you with a breathtaking mountain panorama. After enjoying the views, you will return to Khare on the same day to spend the night.

Pre-climbing training

As per your climbing expertise, the lead guide will host a pre-climbing training for you at the base camp. During the training, you will learn various climbing skills that will help you reach the summit safely.

For example, you will learn to use fixed ropes, crampons, ice axes, etc. These are a few common climbing gear used during the Mera Peak climbing.

Mera Peak Climbing - 15 Days Itinerary

Your Mera Peak climbing begins with a thrilling Lukla flight. If you are trekking in the spring or autumn seasons, you will take the Lukla flight from Ramechhap Airport.

It is located around 4 to 5 hours away from Kathmandu. Given the weather sensitivity of Lukla flights, it is important that the flights are operated on time.

In the spring and autumn seasons, the air traffic is high at Kathmandu Airport. So, to ensure on-time flights, Lukla flights are operated from Ramechhap Airport.

To catch the Lukla flight, you will leave Thamel at around 1:00 AM or 2:00 AM. Enjoy a comfortable, peaceful drive to Ramechhap Airport. From here, you will take a 30-minute flight to Lukla.

Upon landing, meet with your porter and trek to Piya. Follow a not-crowded trekking route. The trail passes by lush hills. You will cross Handi Khola on the way. Walk through Surke village and ascend to Chuok La. From here, you will descend to Paiya.

Leaving Paiya, you will follow a downhill route, crossing a suspension bridge on the way. The trail passes by a slippery path and ascends to Kari La Pass. From here, you will trek via densely forested hills to reach Panggom. Enjoy stunning scenery while trekking.

From Panggom, you will ascend to Panggom La Pass. From here, follow an uneven trail for a bit and then walk in the north direction through lush rhododendron forests.

The trail then crosses Peseng Kharka Khola and continues to Peseng Kharka Danda. Further, you will reach Ningsow village, crossing Ningsow Khola on the way. The view of the south face of Mera Peak is stunning along the trail.

Ningsow onwards, you will follow a downhill route for a while. The trail soon starts to ascend to Ramilo Danda. The view of Mera Peak and other mountains is breathtaking from here. You will then ascend and descend.

Enter the Makalu Barun National Park. You will follow the Pasang Lhamu trail (Pasang Lhamu is the first Nepali woman to climb Mt. Everest) and slowly ascend to Chhatra Khola. You may get to see a red panda on this part of the tour.

Leaving Chhatra Khola, you will hike to Kothe. The trail goes north, following the main Mera Peak route. You will follow the banks of Majang Khola and slowly hike through lush hills.

The trail then continues along the Hink Khola and goes through Tashing Ongma. Here, you can take a short tea break. Further, you will trek to Kothe, crossing a suspension bridge over Sanu Khola on the way.

The trail from Kothe ascends along the Hinku River bed. You will pass by an ancient monastery called Lungsumba Gompa. It is around 200 years old. From here, the trail goes through yak pastures.

You will see beautiful glacial streams on the way. There is no village between Kothe and Thangnak, so you will carry a packed lunch and enjoy a picnic-style lunch. The view of Charpate Himal is excellent from Thangnak.

As you trek from Thangnak to Khare, you will see a change in vegetation. The landscape is much barren now. The trail goes over the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier and crosses the Dig Kharka pasture.

You will then pass by the Hinku Nup and the Shar Glacier. Further, follow a steep trail that might be covered in snow and hike to Khare. Khare is our base camp. The view of Charpate Himal and the north face of Mera Peak from here is astonishing.

Today, you will spend a day resting and acclimatizing. Hike to Mera La Pass early in the morning and return to Khare to spend the night. Later in the day, you will receive pre-climbing training from your guide.

He will teach you how to climb using fixed ropes and crampons. Likewise, you will learn about the climbing routes and all the possible scenarios that you may come across during climbing.

From the Mera Peak Base Camp (Khare), you will begin climbing with your mountain guide and the team that will support you to reach the Mera Peak summit safely.

Before leaving Khare, you will double-check our gear and get pre-climbing training from the guide. The route goes over a glacier. You will reach the high camp in three to four hours of climbing.

Our team will set up the tents and prepare the meals. The guide will brief the summit day planning, and we will spend the remaining day resting.

The view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga, along with other mountains, is mesmerizing from the Mera High Camp.

You will climb to the summit of Mera Peak on this day. Around 1:00 to 3:00 AM, you will leave the Mera Peak High Camp. Using your headlamps, you will slowly follow the footsteps of our guide and ascend towards the summit.

The route goes over the glacier. It is mainly snow walking up to the summit. Depending on the weather, there can be a few entry-level crevasses along the way.

Upon reaching the summit, we get to see jaw-dropping views of mountains like Everest, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nupse, Baurntse, and many others.

After enjoying some time at the summit, we will descend to high camp and further drop to Khare for the night stay. Make sure to bring all your waste down the peak.

Leaving Khare, you will descend back to Kothe. Follow the same trail back and descend through Thangnak, recrossing Dig Kharka pasture and the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier. From Thangnak, you will trek and enjoy beautiful views of Chapate Himal and follow the Hinku River bed to Kothe.
