Essential Information

Affordable Permits and Trekking Costs
If you're gearing up for a trek to Annapurna Base Camp, you'll need two permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. Together, these cost around NPR 5,000–6,000 (about USD 40–50). It's recommended to obtain them directly from the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Pokhara or Kathmandu to avoid extra charges from middlemen. For budget-conscious trekkers, going solo is a great way to save money, provided you have a reliable map and some trekking experience.

Budget-Friendly Accommodation and Food

Along the Annapurna Base Camp route, there are numerous teahouses and lodges offering affordable lodging, typically between NPR 300–700 per night if you dine there as well. Most thrifty trekkers allocate around NPR 2,000–3,000 (USD 15–25) daily for both accommodation and meals. As you ascend, prices tend to rise, so it's smart to eat filling dishes like dal bhat, noodles, or soups and carry some snacks for extra energy. Bringing a reusable water bottle along with purification tablets or filters can help you save money since bottled water becomes expensive at higher elevations.

Best Timing and Travel Tips

For those watching their budget, the ideal trekking seasons are pre-monsoon (March–May) and post-monsoon (September–November), when the weather is clear and teahouses are operational. To reach the trailhead affordably, consider taking a local bus or sharing a jeep from Pokhara to Nayapul or Ghandruk, as buses are much cheaper than private jeeps. Starting early in the day helps you avoid crowds on the trail and increases your chances of securing budget-friendly accommodation before popular spots fill up.
