The Helambu trek is a perfect short trek in Nepal. This trek goes in the Helambu Region overlooking the mountain peaks in the Langtang range of the Himalayas. The trekking trails are blissfully famous for its outstanding natural beauty, fascinating culture, and favorable climates. During this trek you will be able to see beautiful peaks like Langtang Ri, Ganesh Himal, Lang Sisa, Chorkari Ri and many other peaks. Helambu area is populated by the friendly and helpful Sherpa people. There are many teahouses along the route, so you do not need to bring a tent or food, but it is suggested to have a sleeping bag. Along the Helambu Trek you have also chance to see many monasteries which are preserved by locals to keep their tradition alive. The Helambu Trek begins from Sundarijal, an hour's drive from Kathmandu. After about an hour's walk, we enter Shivapuri National Park continuing along the Chisopani, Kutumsang, Thadepati and Sermathang, the trek ends at the Melamchi Pul Bazar in the Helambu region.

Situated to the north of the capital very famous trekking area covered by Langtang National Park is the less visited by the tourists. Making a trek here somewhat more of an adventure. Here the high alpine  area, with mountains visible from Lauribinayak pass. A trek up to the Gosainkunda has to be one of the most interesting and holiest short trek available in Nepal. Gosainkunda (the main lake) where it has several sacred lakes, is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations for Hindu devotees. Gosainkunda is actually the largest among of three main lakes, the other two being the Saraswatikund and Bhairabkunda and more. Hindu legend has it that the lake was formed when the god Shiva plunged his trident (Trisul) into the ground in order to obtain water. Along this section of trail there are impressive views of the mountains including the Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang Himal ranges. Add to this glacial lakes, rhododendron forests, native flora and fauna, magnificent mountains, forest, animal, birds, monasteries all go to make this region a perfect destination.

Gosainkuna trek starts after a day bus journey to Dhunche and crosses the river and forest  to of rhododendron, bamboo and oak below to the Gosainkunda. A short walk around the lake and toward the Lauribinayak Pass is  very interesting.

Essential Information

Overview of the Helambu Trek

The Helambu journey is a fairly short and accessible journey in Nepal, located near to Kathmandu. It generally takes 5 – 7 days and is perfect for those who want an easy to moderate journey without traveling far into remote regions. The trail passes through lush timbers, terraced fields, and fascinating Tamang and Sherpa townlets. At elevations ranging from 800 m to 3,600 m, the Helambu journey offers stunning views of the Langtang range, Dorje Lakpa, and indeed casts of Gauri Shankar, all without the extreme mound of other journeys.

Stylish Time to Trek

The most suitable times for the Helambu journey are spring( March – May) and afterlife( September – November) when the skies are clear, and temperatures are affable. In spring, rhododendrons and wildflowers are in full bloom, adding vibrant colors to the trails. Afterlife offers crisp mountain views and stable rainfall. Winter journeys are also possible since the trail does n't go to veritably high elevations, but it can be chilly. Thunderstorm( June – August) brings rain and slippery trails, though it’s lush and green for those who enjoy solitariness and off- season trekking.

Artistic Highlights and Original Life

The Helambu region is known for its unique Yolmo Sherpa and Tamang culture. townlets like Sermathang, Melamchi Gaon, and Tarkeghyang offer traditional cloisters, prayer flags, and beautiful chortens. The Yolmo people have saved their Buddhist traditions, and pedestrians frequently get a chance to visit ancient cloisters and observe original rituals. This artistic absorption makes Helambu not only a scenic journey but also a meaningful artistic trip near to the capital.

Accommodation and Food

Teahouses and lodges are available throughout the Helambu trail, offering introductory apartments and manual Nepali refections. You can enjoy traditional dal bhat, polls, momos, Tibetan chuck , and seasonal vegetables. Since the journey is close to Kathmandu, food costs are fairly lower compared to high- altitude journeys. Still, prices increase slightly as you move further along the trail. Carrying a applicable water bottle and sanctification tablets is judicious as bottled water can be precious and environmentally unfriendly.

Permits and Availability

For the Helambu journey, you need a TIMS card( Pedestrians’ Information Management System) and a Langtang National Park Entry Permit. Both can be arranged in Kathmandu. The journey generally starts with a short drive( 1 – 2 hours) from Kathmandu to Sundarijal or Melamchi Pul Bazaar. The propinquity to Kathmandu makes it veritably accessible for trippers with limited time.

Fitness Level and Trek Difficulty

The Helambu journey is considered easy to moderate. diurnal walking involves 4 – 6 hours on average with some ascents and descents but no extremely high passes. It's suitable for newcomers, families, or pedestrians who want a artistic experience with moderate physical demands. Proper trekking shoes, light warm apparel, and rain gear( depending on season) are sufficient. Since the journey remains below 3,600 m, the threat of altitude sickness is minimum, making it one of Nepal’s safest touring routes.
