Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill difficulty

To trek to Annapurna Base Camp, you have to be fit. Although the Annapurna Base Camp trek is considered a beginner-friendly, moderate trek, it has its fair share of challenges.

For example, walking 6 hours a day on rugged, uphill terrain while dealing with high altitude is not easy, at least for first-time trekkers. Anyone wishing to do the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill should be physically fit.

The Annapurna Base Camp trek route and Ghorepani trail go through lush hills, crossing thrilling suspension bridges, steep tracks, and avalanche-prone areas.

Previous trekking experience is not necessary. Likewise, trekkers also need to be okay with simple mountain accommodations and limited services. The journey demands lots of patience and sacrifices.

Altitude sickness during the Annapurna Base Camp Ghorepani Poon Hill trek

Altitude sickness risk is not that high on the Annapurna Base Camp Ghorepani Poon Hill trek if you follow our acclimatization suggestions. Leaving Kathmandu, you will reach Annapurna Base Camp in four days.

So, you will travel from 1,324 meters to 4,130 meters. Gaining 2,800 meters in just four days is a lot, but on a good note, you will ascend slowly.

Note that some trekkers suffer from altitude sickness no matter what because they need more time to adjust to high elevations than other trekkers.

It is fine. Our mountain guide will make little changes in our daily acclimatization plan as per the requirements of our guests.

The early signs of altitude sickness are vomiting, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, insomnia, difficulty breathing, etc. Even if you feel uneasy, sick, or restless, inform your guide.

To prevent altitude sickness during the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghoprenai Poon Hill, follow the below tips:

  • Identify early signs on time and receive first aid. Listen to your body.
  • Avoid drinking alcoholic drinks or smoking during the trek. Dehydration will instantly lead you to altitude sickness.
  • This brings us to our next point- drink plenty of water, soups, and ginger-honey tea daily.
  • Get ample rest and eat adequate food. You need to be in good condition and possess enough energy to walk long hours daily.
  • During hiking, maintain a steady pace. Do not rush.
  • You can feel out of energy during hiking. It is normal. Carry electrolytes and drink them whenever you need a little energy boost.

Accommodation during the ABC trek with Poon Hill

The accommodation on the Annapurna Base Camp trek route and in Ghorepani village is the lodge. Compared to other treks in Nepal, the ABC route has excellent accommodation and meal facilities for the trekkers.

It could be the popularity of the region. In villages like Ulleri, Ghorepani, and Jhinu Danda, you will spend nights in comfortable lodges.

Lodges in these villages have private washrooms, which are not available at lodges in upper elevations like Bamboo, Deurali, Himalaya, and Annapurna Base Camp. We book twin shared rooms. For single rooms, you have to pay extra money.

As the altitude increases, sharing washrooms becomes normal. There are very few lodges at Bamboo, Deurali, Himalaya, and Annapurna Base Camp, so it is also normal to share rooms with other trekkers (at least during peak trekking seasons).

Many trekkers even spend nights in the dining area. It's a whole different experience that makes this trek very special.

Charging, WiFi, mobile network, and hot shower service during the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill

Charging, WiFi, and hot showers are paid services in the lodges, and these expenses are not covered by our Annapurna Base Camp trek with the Ghorepani Poon Hill package. Trekkers are requested to carry some money during the trek for personal expenses such as these.

  • WiFi: WiFi is available in villages such as Jhinu Danda, Ghorepani, Ulleri, etc. However, the network may be slow. In villages like Bamboo, Himalaya, and ABC, WiFi is not common. Even if you find it somewhere, it will cost you a lot of money, and the network will not be stable.
  • Hot shower: Hot shower is another paid service on the ABC route because there is no electricity in the region. Locals have to rely on gas, wood, or solar power to heat the water for showers, which costs a few extra bucks.
  • Mobile network: You can buy a local SIM card in Kathmandu to use data during the trek. However, the signal will not be stable along the trek route.

What will you eat during the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill?

During the Annapurna Base Camp trek with Ghorepani Poon Hill, you will eat three meals a day, which is covered in our package cost. Apart from these three meals, you can purchase more food and drinks on your own.

Eggs, sausages, fruits, bread, muesli, pancakes, pizza, burgers, and meat dishes are also available in many villages. We recommend you eat a balanced diet during the trek so that you can have full energy for long walks.
