Trekking in Nepal’s far-western Upper Dolpo region takes you into one of the most remote areas of the Himalaya. The area is famous for rare found animals as snow leopard and blue sheep. Dolpo region is situated between the Tibetan plateau and the Dhaulagiri ranges. The inhabitants of Dolpo region are mainly Tibetans; therefore, the region is rich in ethnic Tibetan culture and arts. It lies in northern part and the western part of the district is Nepal’s largest National Park Shey-Phoksundo. Being remote area, the western part is also an underdeveloped and quite poor. Permits are expensive, and you cannot trek in Upper Dolpo independently. Upper Dolpo Trekking goes from Juphal after a short flight from Nepalgunj. Due to heavy snowfall most of time it remains restricted. For this trekking it needs perfect seasons like autumn. A special trekking permit is required to discover this part of trekking in Nepal, full of unique culture, social lifestyles and monasteries.
